The cost of cleaning your teeth with your local dentist in the U.S. can be quite high, if he or she recommends deep cleaning. It makes perfect sense to have your teeth cleaned with the best dentists in Costa Rica, when you come for your dental implants. Dental offices abroad offer teeth cleaning and your total savings for all of your dental procedures will be even larger. So, here is some basic information and pricing.
First, allow me to explain how the price of your deep cleaning procedure is determined. The cost of your cleaning procedure will depend on two factors, the depth of the pocket(s) and the extent of the area the dental hygienist will have to clean. The depth of the pocket will determine how deep the hygienist will need to go to remove the buildup or plaque. As far as the extent of the area is concerned, a human mouth is broken down into four quadrants. Dentists typically charge per quadrant of cleaning they have to do. Depending on these two factors, overseas dental offices may charge between 0 and 0 per quadrant. Many dental offices in Costa Rica guarantee at least 20% savings. Therefore, we recommend you get a quote from your local doctor, in case the office in Costa Rica asks for it.
Please also keep in mind that with more extensive deep cleaning, the dentist will most likely make the area numb so that the process is comfortable for you. The cost of local anesthetic should included in the price quoted to you by the dental office. In addition, dentists may use antibiotic gels and rinse (e.g. chlorhexidine) within the periodontal pocket. This is done to clean the area and remove any unwanted bacteria. As in the case of anesthetic, the cost of these medications should included in your quote. Moreover, make sure the overseas dental office you choose uses the same ultrasonic cleaners used by your local dental office.
Lastly, if you choose to do your teeth cleaning with a dental clinic in Costa Rica in addition to dental implants, allow yourself an extra day of stay in Costa Rica. The cleaning will take place a day before your dental surgeon puts in your implants.
